ICISO Conference News and Photos

The 15th International Conference on Informatics and Semiotics in Organisations (ICISO 2014) was successfully held on 23-24 May, 2014 in Shanghai, China.

ICISO2014 is IFIP WG8.1 working conference. It was organised by Informatics Research Centre, University of Reading, hosted by School of Information Management and Engineering (SIME), Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and sponsored by Sinldo. The venue of the conference is in the SIME building, SUFE, Shanghai. The conference proceedings have been published by Springer IFIP Advances in Information and Communication Technology.

Conference chair Prof. Kecheng Liu (Director of Informatics Research Centre, Head of Business Informatics, Systems and Accounting, University of Reading) and programme committee chair Prof. Jingti Han (Head of School, School of Information Management and Engineering, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics) have chaired this two-day programme. Leading professors in Organisational Semiotics and Informatics from worldwide participated in this conference. 

Conference chair, Prof. Kecheng Liu was delivering a welcome speech in opening ceremony.

Prof. John Board, Dean of Henley Business School, made remarks in opening ceremony.

Prof. Weiguo (Patrick) Fan, the director of centre for Business Intelligence and Analytics, Pamplin College of Business gave an inspirational keynote speech on “Overview of Social Media Analytics and Its Business Applications”.

Prof. Daniel O’Leary delivered a wonderful keynote speech on “'Big Data', the 'Internet of Things' and the 'Internet of Signs'” on the second day of the conference.

“Service Science and Knowledge Innovation” is the main theme of ICISO 2013. It provided a focal platform for researchers to share their talents and expertise in various domains such as organisational semiotics, information management, computational science, business and engineering. More importantly, it offered a tremendous opportunity to pave the way for potential collaborations among semiotics research forces and industrial practices. The conference attracted a large amount of participants from Europe, America, Africa, Middle East, Asia, and Pacific Region. Participants showed great enjoyment for the conference experience.

We are pleased to witness this conference has made significant contribution on bringing researchers from different countries closer and exploring collaborative links for innovative ideas and engaging the wider organisational semiotics community. We also hope this conference will demonstrate the pace of innovation in all future events.
